For lots of people December is the most exciting time of the year because of the holiday's, some of which being Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and many more. Yet there is another highly anticipated and widely celebrated "holiday" that I celebrate in the month of December which is Spotify Wrapped.
Spotify (2008) is one of the fastest growing and used music platforms available for download at the moment, with its biggest competition in my opinion being Apple Music, Tidal, and Soundcloud. Although what sets it apart amongst the other apps and sites is Spotify wrapped. Which is a collection of statistics and data gathered all year and released by the app in early December that highlights the users niche or mainstream tastes and compiles them into wicked slideshows and generated playlists based on it such as "Repeat Rewind," and "Your Top Songs 2021" etc.
I would argue that it is because of this feature that the app has had so much success as it has consistently generated buzz every December online and on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. I must've seen at least 60 instagram stories with my friends Spotify wrapped stats on their instagram stories this past year.
This yearly event is also of great importance socially as all those who use the app for the most part share the statistics of their own Spotify wrapped. Why does this matter you might ask? Sharing these statistics is a public declaration of your interests and that can be vulnerable since you are allowing yourself to be perceived by others. In the same sense it is also an easy way to feed into superiority complexes [speaking for myself here more than anything].
Here's a picture of my 2021 Spotify Wrapped and top 5 songs

Now I'm not saying I'm better than anyone because none of my top 5 songs are mainstream pop or on the radio but they do make me feel unique and special. There's nothing quite like the high I get every December trying to validate my own complex.
Be sure to follow my Spotify and check out what other music I've been listening to.
Let me know what your top songs were for the year of 2021, and if you also have a superiority complex like me ;)
P.S. I love you x
P.P.S. I fully listen to mainstream pop and love it very much. I am also a girl group and boy band super-fan, you gotta love it, no hate <3
